The evolution of this type of art had a big impact on us. Centuries back then, our ancestors not only use wood as everyday tools but also for devotional and religious purposes.
As it's easier to carve than stone, wood attracted the interest of artists and designers so they metamorphosed it into abstract shapes. In today's society, you could find easily wood carving artwork in art galleries or even workshops. One of the many craftsmen that caught our attention is Fat Fox and Moon Journey based in Bangkok, Thailand.Picture source: Fat Fox and Moon JourneyHis sculptures are mainly telling a journey of a little girl named Moon with her animal friend called Fat Fox. The story began when the sculptor got inspiration from Japanese cartoons. So then, he decided to create his own characters. The animal is a representation of him because he is not a good person and not perfect, while Moon is designed to fill in what is missing from Fat Fox.
Unlike others craftsmen who use basswood for carving. Fat Fox and Moon Journey is using pine wood as their main material since it's soft, durable, and easy to carve. In addition, they painted each sculpture using Acrylic color to make them look more alive. Picture source: Fat Fox and Moon JourneySo, are you ready to follow the journey of these two best friends?
