Is it real cake or is it real shoes?
Last year, social media was surprised by a bunch of meme cake videos that look like anything but cake. From fruits to a Gucci bag, everyone was confused when the content creator cut them to reveal they are, in fact, cakes.
From there, people suddenly have trust issues but also were inspired to try to make a realistic cake, and even non-bakers hopped on the trend, cutting into objects that were obviously not cake.
This is also what inspired the fashion design student Tal Maslavi with his upcoming release the “Graduation” collection which includes casual leather shoes with the cut on the front showing Strawberry, Chocolate, to Vanilla cake flavors.
Maslavi is implying that cake layers have become a symbol of the reality we live in, it is not clear what is real. What did you think of these shoe cakes? Did you think it was cake at first?
